| Podere Il Giardino is a typical Tuscan country house (surface: around 629 m2, included the old wine cellars) and with a farm (about 3 hectares + 5 hectares of wood). The farmhouse was built in 1597 and since then it belonged to the owners family. It is situated in the region of Lucca (Tuscany) on the green hills near the plain of Lucca, the sea of Versilia and Viareggio and the valleys at the beginning of Garfagnana and Apuan Alps. You can reach the house after about 200 mt of not asphalted road. The farmhouse is placed on a hill and surrounded by lawns and woods. | Around the house, there is a lawn provided with barbecue, firewood oven, hammocks and tables for breakfasts in the open air, under the thick lime trees. In the past the farmhouse lodged the pilgrims, who went through the woods towards the sanctuary of S. Theodoro, situated in the near hills. The farmers that lived in the farm gave the pilgrims room and board (there was a special room to lodge the pilgrims, called the Pilgrim's Room). The house has almost been preserved as it was in origin (with the only addition of the bathrooms and the kitchens that are very functional). It was renovated, trying to maintain the old structure, according to our typical Tuscan tradition: For this reason our farmhouse is particularly suitable for the guests, who love the simple life. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The building is on two floors: 1° floor: entrance from a barnyard with an old firewood oven; a wide country kitchen with a great fireplace; a dining room, 1 double bedroom; 1 room with two beds; an ante-bathroom and a bathroom with tub. 2° floor: entrance from a small terrace with table and benches for breakfast in the open air; a wide room called the Pilgrim's Room or the Monks' Room with an exposition of old farm implements, mezzane (a kind of brick) floors and stone walls. Seven steps up there is a wide room with chestnut wood floor, stone and trussed walls, called for a long time the Corn Room (because here the farmers once stripped the leaves off the corn and danced, playing the accordion); an entrance; a double room; a room with two beds (and a 3° bed); a kitchen with a fireplace and a coal oven; a bathroom with a tub. Both the apartments have communicating rooms. Total beds 8. | THE SURROUNDINGS 13 kms. from Lucca 25 kms. from Versilia 30 kms. from Garfagnana 80 kms. from Florence 40 kms. from Pisa. Possibility of walks and trekking in the surroundings. On the near hills there are many old little villages with beautiful Romanesque churches. Sporting facilities 6 kms. from the town swimming pool of Mutigliano. 1 km. from the riding school of Consani farm (on the hill opposite). Refuelling-Food-other services In the village of San Martino in Freddana (2 kms. from the farmhouse) there is: a supermarket, a post office, a bank, a petrol station, a newspaper kiosk, a laundry, 2 cafe-grocer s shops, a butchery, an estate agent s, the confectioner s Orchidea Blu (home-produced), a baker, a clothes shop, an hairdresser man-woman, pizza by the slice, a chemist, a sanitary district, a garage, a car electrical repair shop, the pizzeria restaurant Lalpino with firewood oven and many other restaurants. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
