In Val di Cornia a farm
is coming back to new and radiant life.
Author of this change is a woman, close to the old country traditions.
Bewitched by … SS. Annunziata II
Fields and sweetly undulated hills stretch to the coast.
Olivegroves become silver when they are lit by the sun and wheat and
sunflower fields give off an old quiet.
In distance the sea sparkles and the profile of Corsica and Elba island
appears on the horizon of Baratti gulf.
Beatrice has begun a new job since 1999: the former pianist is today a
satisfied farmer and head of the agritourism SS. Annunziata II.
The land around the house (13 hectares of olivegroves, orchards and
vegetable garden) gives good extra virgin olive oil, (which is used by
Massaza to produce an old soap), fruit for the production of natural
preserve and tasty vegetables.
For the guests there are five independent cottages from two up to six
beds.
The two buildings, from which the five apartments have been erected, are
typical tuscan manors: white, square, with the wood shutters and the
pergola of sweet smelling strawberry grape.
The farmhouse is situated in a very quiet position, in the upper part of
St. Vincenzo. It was built at the beginnings of 1900 and was composed by
the barns, the stall, the cart road and the manor.
Only woman’s eyes could see here a place, where her dreams could become
true.
Beatrice and her mother Cosetta tried to furnish the houses, according
to the style of the typical farmhouse: the big wood beams of the ceiling,
the old and renovated furniture, the old wrought-iron beds with fabric,
sewed and renovated by the owners, the old sewing machines with the
marble plans used as garden tables.
We can offer our guests:
“bed & breakfast": sleep and breakfast, not only with a simple
cappuccino and croissant, but with bread and “schiacciate”, homemade
jams of strawberry grape, oranges, sour oranges, green tomatoes and
melon, and then fresh ricotta, cheese, honey and the homemade cakes,
like the sweet salami and the Corollo with olive oil.
You can choose to stay in the apartment and to dine in the farm with
typical land products of the season (on booking).
You will not find a formal atmosphere in S. Annunziata! You will enter
our family: drink an aperitif all together under the pergola in the
evening or talk to Beatrice in the kitchen, while she is preparing the
preserve…
Our guests like returning to our farmhouse, especially with their
children, who can have a break in a little wooden house or chase frogs
in the stream.
No bottle of oil or piece of soap leaves S. Annunziata without wonderful
decorations by Beatrice, who is a true artist. She uses natural raw
materials for her decorations, like laurel, herbs, lavender, orange and
lemon peels and raffia.
Talking to the old farmers, Beatrice discovered that olive oil is not
only food, but also the main ingredient for the soap production. No
sooner said than done! Considering that the farmhouse is based on
organic products, she decided to produce a soap and bath-salts line
without additives, which is perfumed with the essences of the garden,
like sage, rosemary, lavender, laurel, and a natural exfoliating line
with flour, sand and almonds.
In the beginning
Beatrice produced a little soap only for her friends and guests. Later
she decided to start a true production thanks to the good opinions,
coming also from foreign countries.
In the “coppaio”, (where olive oil was preserved) you can enjoy
delicious typical dinners and rich breakfasts, and find a didactic
laboratory about olive oil.
A sweet-smelling tactile garden was built specifically for children and
blind
