Barberino is located on the left bank of the river Stura at the foot of the hill on which stands the castle of the Cattani of Combiate. The landscape is vast and varied with groups of mountains rising up from the valleys rich in streams. Certainly the area was inhabited by the Etruscans, but also from earlier populations, and later by the Romans who built the first village on the right bank of the Stura, razed in the fifth century. In the Middle Ages, the territory was divided between the Ubaldini and Guidi families, in this era was built the Castel of Cattani. The coat of arms of the family had a head with three beards and probably that is where the name Barberino originates from. Destroyed in '300 from Florence was rebuilt as a market place. Over time the city developed further thanks to the fact that, already in etruscan-roman era, it is in the center of an important road network that connects Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. In Barberino is the Medici's Villa Cafaggiolo that for its beauty was included by UNESCO in the World Heritage Sites. The Villa le Maschere, dating back to the '500, so named for the 22 all different masks carved on the west facade, is located on a hill overlooking the Lake of Bilancino. The latter is an artificial lake due to the homonymous dam on the river Sieve, it is a popular spot for fishing, canoeing and hiking. On the territory of Barberino there are many churches and parishes built between 1000 and 1500, some of these have been subject to restorations and rearrangements. Important architectural structure is the Castle of Villanova former residence of Ubaldini now partly rebuilt and use as school and convent. In project also the use of park as restaurant, a place of ceremonies and banquets.|"Barberino di Mugello"Craftsmen a Barberino Di Mugello
