The town, which has about 13,000 inhabitants, is located along the road linking Florence to Siena passing through the Chianti region, more precisely, between the mountains of Chianti and Florentine hills. The history of Greve is closely linked to its main square that in the Middle Ages was the most important market in the area due to the fact of being in a central position between the Valdarno, Val di Greve and the ancient Via Cassia leading to Siena. Before becoming a possession of Florence, Greve was subjected to the vicariate of San Giovanni Valdarno. The triangular square, is almost entirely surrounded by arcades, in its center is the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano (known explorer and navigator from Greve). One of the top is occupied by the parish church dedicated to the Holy Cross, which houses a fresco of the '300 representing the Madonna and Child. Many other churches and parishes, no less interesting, are scattered in all localities in which the town is divided. Greve is the only town in the province of Florence that fit completely in the production area of Chianti Classico, because of it has a very high quality of wines and oil renowned already in the late fourteenth century between the aristocratic families of Florence and Siena who came to further facilitate the production thanks to their huge investment on agriculture. Nearby you can visit many castles and fortified villages among which is good to remmeber Castle of Uzzano, Castle of Mugnana, Castle of Verrazzano and the village of Montefioralle developed precisely where was the ancient feudal village. It retains in good condition the homonymous castle.|"Greve in Chianti"Apartment a Greve In Chianti
