Borgo a Mozzano is located in the Vally of Serchio shortly after the confluence with the river Lima. Only 20 km separate it from the city of Lucca visible from the top of Mount Bargiglio, called for this reason the Eye of Lucca, people can get to the top via a walk of 10 minutes on a trail through the woods. The foundation of the city dates around 1615 but was already inhabited in roman times and in the Middle Ages. In the same years was built a hospital and was consecrated the church. Once arrived the troops of Napoleon, Borgo a Mozzano was erected to capital of the area of the Montagna Lucchese. Subsequently, the town became part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and then was annexed to the rest of the country in the Unification of Italy. Religious buildings of interest are the Church of San Rocco rebuilt in 1760 together with the oratory, the baroque interior,,latin cross plan, holds six altars finely crafted. And the Church of San Jacopo erected between the eleventh and twelfth centuries, has three nave and an adjacent bell tower, the facade, now covered with plaster, is in stone. Of great interest is the inner courtyard surrounded by elegant arcades of the Convent of San Francesco dating back to 1523. Architectural symbol of the town is the Ponte della Maddalena, better known as the Devil's Bridge because of the legend over it, crossing the river Serchio. The picturesque bridge, three asymmetric arches, was built on the orders of the feudatory Matilda of Canossa and restored by Castruccio Castracani. There are several events that animate the life of the quiet town of Borgo a Mozzano, are mentioned in particular: the halloween party through the streets of the old town take palce parades of demons and fire-eaters and the passage of terror animated by particular sets and costumed actors. The Baldoria is held instead in the locality of Cerreto to celebrate the arrival of spring and the end of winter, is made a bonfire around the bell tower where are burn olive branches and twigs brought by the inhabitants.|"Borgo a Mozzano"
